West Hoathly is a picturesque parish set on the edge of the Ashdown Forest. It comprises three distinct and individual villages; West Hoathly, Sharpthorne and Highbrook, along with the hamlets of Selsfield and Tyes Cross.
West Hoathly itself is an historic village and its lofty location made it a prime site for a warning beacon on Finches Field.
The villages are served by two Church of England churches, St Margaret’s in the centre of West Hoathly and All Saints in Highbrook.
The Parish is surrounded by the towns of East Grinstead to the north, Haywards Heath
to the south, Crawley to the west and Tunbridge Wells to the east, each with rail
links to London.
St Dunstan’s Catholic Church, can also be found in West Hoathly village, as can the village school.
There are many places of interest, clubs and things to do within this area.
Up until forty years ago the parish was served by the Bluebell line of the Brighton and South Coast railway. Although the station has long since been demolished the platforms can still be seen and the sound of steam trains as they emerge from Sharpthorne tunnel can be heard from high up on Finches Field.
Our thanks to the Parish Council for allowing us to use the Millennium Map of the Village. Detailed/Illustrated copies can be purchased from the Council.
We are also in easy reach of Gatwick Airport, to the West of the village, and the
M23 which provides access to the M25, to the north and Brighton to the south.
